With loud cheers and the spirit of the Tiger the TSB wrestling team again finds itself atop the North Central Association of Schools for the Blind (NCASB). Celebrating continues as the2019 Wrestlers and Cheerleaders defending champions bring home the gold again. 

The journey for TSB’s cheerleading and wrestling teams began in October with practices and scrimmages. Adding excitement to the beginning of the season, the Tigers hosted the 2nd Annual Frank Alexander Wrestling Invitational on December 1st. Eighteen teams from across the region and other states saw 123 wrestlers engage in the day long meet. 

With support from the cheerleaders, the wrestlers continued their journey with 13 events against private and public schools. January 25th found the teams traveling north to the NCASB Conference Championships in Illinois. Their sendoff on 

 Thursday afternoon, January 24th, included a school wide pep rally where the “rookie” teachers performed. A video of the event is available on the school’s YouTube channel.

Motivated by good energy and support from the school, and great coaching from staff, the students achieved wonderful things at conference.

In addition to the wrestling team’s first place finish, the cheerleaders the school took home the coveted “Most Spirited Award”. The TSB Tiger mascot (Garrett Meeks) placed second.  Jonathan Grissom was undefeated in his matches and was voted Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament. Other personal placements among the wrestlers were  Korey Nettles- (106lb) - 1st place undefeated, Miguel Jose- (138lb) - 1st place undefeated, Avery Mayberry- (170lb) - 2nd place, KeAunte Smith- (126lb) - 3rd place, Eh Gay- (170lb) - 4th place, and Lee Smith- (120lb) - 4th place.

The Tiger Wrestling Team consists of Johnathon Grissom (95), Korey Nettles (106), Donnie Sands (113), Lee Smith (120), Junior Brooks (120), KeAunte Smith, (126),  Candi Herrera (126), John Phipps (132), Miguel Jose (138), Anthony Bonetti (152), Avery Mayberry (160), Lathaniel Phipps (182), Savannah Copithorne (182), Eh Gay (160), and Craig Heggie (Heavyweight). 

Cheering for the Tigers this year are Lexie Williams, Alyssa Aydelott, TaMyah Jordan, Cody Grissom, Andre Walker, Garrett Meeks, and team captain Ella Brown. Congratulations to everyone representing the school through these great victories. All of your hard work sure gives the Tigers something great to growl about!
