Summer Programs
Preschool Evaluation Program
TSB's preschool evaluation program is offered to children ages 3-5 who are blind and low vision (including those with additional disabilities) and transitioning from TEIS to their local school system. Children transitioning from TEIS to homeschool for the next school year are eligible as well.
Children participating in the preschool evaluation program will have their functional vision assessed, along with additional screenings in the areas of speech and language, classroom skills, physical therapy, and occupational therapy to develop a holistic understanding of a child's unique profile. While children are being assessed, parents and guardians participate in training sessions on topics related to blindness and low vision. Following the evaluation, families and their school districts will receive copies of reports to assist with the development of initial program plans.
TSB Student Summer Learning Camp
Summer Learning Camps are available for rising K-9th grade students who currently attend TSB. Every day at our camp, students will have specific time set aside to concentrate on subjects such as math, reading, writing, and other content areas. Our knowledgeable staff will offer engaging lessons and activities to support and enhance core concepts, as well as develop essential skills. Qualified teachers may offer specialized instruction to help individuals improve their skills and gain confidence in specific areas.
Our camp not only focuses on work but also provides students with a range of enjoyable and educational activities, including outdoor games, arts and crafts, music and dance, and field trips. These activities have been created to encourage students to participate actively and stay engaged, while also fostering creativity, teamwork, and social skills. Additional focus skills include adaptive technology, orientation and mobility, expanded core curriculum, and social emotional learning.

Sports Camp
Sports Camp at TSB is designed to provide students across Tennessee with the opportunity to participate in rich, meaningful physical activities they might not otherwise be able to find in their home environments. Activities in the past have included Blind/Low Vision specific sports like Goalball, as well as adapted activities such as archery, ice skating, and hikes at local state parks. Participating students do not need to have prior experience on sports teams- TSB Sports Camp is all about exposure to new experiences and exploring fun ways to stay active.
INSPIRE Academy
INSPIRE Academy is TSB's newest summer program, covering college readiness and career exploration. INSPIRE is specifically designed for high school students who plan to attend college. This week-long experience will help students establish a foundation for success in those pursuits, by providing numerous opportunities to learn what it takes to be independent and successful by practicing skills in different settings. All INSPIRE Academy students stay on-campus at TSB to simulate independent living routines in a college environment.
