all right good to see everybody here today my name is Alan I am the director for accessible instructional materials Outreach Services here at the Tennessee School for the Blind really grateful to have all of you guys here to hear some of the new things that are happening coming out of the resource give me some updates and in and help answer any questions that you guys might have and we're just excited that you're here at all so to kick off kind of a new new season of the new year of square with a skier more specifically for a new year of online virtual learning and professional development and you know opportunities so I wanted to start by just kind of letting everyone know you're a reminder of what has been sent out to a couple of newsletters to this point when you're when covid started and everyone had hunker down and we weren't going to go into schools and we could meet in person all those things way back when who knows when that was we we obviously could not call the unity conference at the Tennessee School for the Blind as had been held in for so many years and so without being able to do that you know might myself dr. Rachel at Vanderbilt and many other people just kind of felt like there still was a great need to figure out how to support TV eyes as they you know worked to figure out how to teach their kids in the sky New Era of virtual learning hybrid learning and who knows all those kinds of things from that came what we called the unity Virtual Academy wear for the past two years we humbly would say that we've successfully pulled off 2 years of I want something like a minimum of the 10 online professional development learning sessions each year for tvi to another Vision professionals to be a part of a really proud of that for current 20 22 23 school year we've actually added a new partner to to do the learning series partnership originally between the Tennessee School for the Blind Vanderbilt University's program in visual disabilities and the 10th chapter of Aer I'm just here we're kind of you know what were you and we're looking forward to continuing on and and we brought on the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center to Lewis pissed in a very critical way in just having a libel your organization through which we can kind of house and hold and and you'll get the word out about the events that were holding online and so we're excited that you're right around this time and you'll hear more about this later but with the unity conference coming back in person this school year we decided that having you to be all over the place would get people little bit confused and we have branded of the unity Virtual Academy so now be called the Tennessee visual impairments Virtual Academy which kind of comes into this you know fun tag over Tennessee beaver so try to know that we know that this is all the same thing and we do anticipate doing our best to continue making Ben's like this available for the foreseeable future even with in-person conferences on the calendar so you guys are all here to take this all off we're really excited I'm excited when I remember that I was doing this and I did this at a session last year I am I have did you notice that I was wearing this shirt in last year's video for session and a side to wear the same thing against it so you might become a tradition that yearly you get to see my world. I chart shirt on Welcome Back to School video but all that to say can we all take maybe a couple seconds to introduce ourselves because I'd love for you guys to even know where are all these other cvi's Bishop professionals who are here from across the state and I would just you know just introduce yourself you know are you Vision teacher Mobility specialist whatever might be one of that role is and you know what what county is Peoria School District you're in I think I just kind of can put in perspective like we are we are such a small professional group in the field of education and one of my goals coming out of this Resource Centers to be a catalyst for helping you all feel like you are you are part of a community you have people you can talk to I'm happy to facilitate to still take those things but there are many of us that we can tap into Miller with the things going on in Tennessee we deal with the same textbooks or whatever might be and so yeah I just want to see how to make that happen so if anyone wants to kind of unmute and just kind of go for that otherwise I'll start you know getting awkward and ottoman people Burkhart on the one of the vision specialist in Clarksville Montgomery County I see Allie talking I don't hear anything your unmuting but I like your mouth moving I don't know if there's your microphones not working or sorry still not working maybe you are Pat and Jen share your screen there we go thank you I'm sorry that that's not working do you want to type that into the chat and I'll read that out for everybody what you have Cher and then if anyone else wants to introduce themselves please feel free okay so always says he's from Vanderbilt University so you want a doctor's lesson students okay awesome very cool and welcoming welcome and yeah I'm sure you're beginning your journey join the field and that's that's great I'm jjim with Metro actually think Ali you're going to be one of my practicum students this fall and I said I'm from Metro Nashville Public Schools and I'm a TV app for Marshall County Schools my name is Anita Henderson I had to pull to the side because I'm driving I'm a vision specialist and a orientation and Mobility specialist in Clarksville Montgomery County School System awesome glad to hear it you say Melinda a text into the chat Melinda deller she's been a tvi since 1991 and have taught all over the US before settling in Huntsville Alabama after my husband her husband retired from the military she is currently a private contractor and serves school districts in to Tennessee Valley are in Susan car special educator parents of a daughter with syriana you mind sharing what what counties are in the car you don't have to I guess you like interested in Inside Out Franklin County that's nuts. Melendez her or where she works I think anyways anybody else did not get to introduce himself Pat you want introduce yourself or Tiffany you're here I'm I am this is Jessica Villanueva I signed in baby I'm showing as Tiffany she's unable to make it so I'm joining instead but hi I'm Jessica Villanueva MD program director for deaf and blind services for Vocational Rehabilitation for the state of Tennessee I'm actually in Knoxville but I cover stay twice very cool thanks written and Heather McDonough said having some type of shoes that's all right but she is with Shelby County schools in Memphis what's the weather advisory for three weeks now that's awesome but you've been on the vision team in Shelby County Schools I think so. anyways that you won't introduce yourself or you don't have to are you muted still muted we have that hour to I guess that's true or I can I can introduce you if you can't get it on meet at that there's a function where you can ask to unmute but they're the ones who actually unmute themselves but Heather said that she was CBI in Shelby County schools for eleven years now you know how bad can a supervisory role over that team there so I look forward to working with you down the line so some difficulties there but I I I know Pat dearly from my time working in the Irish Department in Greene County or quite a while I'm sure I'm so glad you're here today I can tell a silly story I heard I got an email from a teacher in Greene County this week and I mistakenly asked her was Pat still with the school district and that sent me so I thought you you thought I was gone huh email and I felt a little bit embarrassed but then I told her about my kids and I think we're all good but I'm anyways I I'm so glad you guys are all here I don't want to delete Ally anymore I don't want to waste of time but I'm I'm just so glad that we're taking this off and let me just kind of provide you guys with a bit of an overview of just what the resource center is here for what we do in case some aspects but you were not aware of and maybe eventually some of the new initiatives that we think that we're going to be able to ramp up an intake on an in-service of you guys as you serve your students how you got them you did you want to say hello to everybody I didn't want to say hello I'm glad to see you and now and I appreciate everything that you do for us and I appreciate the recent help that you guys that's what we alright so let's see here so let let me just start by saying that the resource center is here no. No materials right and that's kind of what the resource a decir for traditionally that has been ensuring that you guys can can make sure that you can get ahold of Braille books large print books things in between for your students to be able to access the sand text the materials that that their peers are are using in the classroom so that has been what has been done out of the resource center and that Wilkins or would you rather the resource answer you know whatever people say about Braille you know being being not relevant anymore we we we simply don't agree with that statement you will we are here to ensure that we can get are the kinds of text that your students need so that's that's inform us when we're here for the the the next prong of of what the resource center does is in a wee wee conduct the we will federal court a sentence or the federal court of program in conjunction with a PhD American printing house for the Blind and so you know over the years many of you've gotten used to hearing from someone here at csb in the resource center about what is in your District qualify for the program and then or those who do qualify through the school year you know everyone can can check out the 8th catalog look at all the products and items and materials that are available through there and then you can order that through through our Resource Center about that as well, so that's one of the the big things that we would take on I would say those have been kind of what we are or have been known for and I just said I'm now I've now completed 1 years of being the director here in the resource center what a what a privilege to kind of jump into this side of the world and understand what it looks like to support posts that I work with directly before and I have kind of felt kind of lead to try to expand in what the research center can do is to make us more and more a source of not just material resources but also use the Bell not just a sensor for material resources but also one for professional learning and professional development resources so you know what I what I feel like I say all the time and where people you got questions let us know we are here for you I'm by no means the best TV I in the world right I'm by no means the most experience I don't know you don't have to say I'm sure most of you guys know but I do feel confident in my ability to find answers get connected with people who have those answers and and I feel like I'm in a very unique place where our research MP that mechanism where we where we can find those things out and make those kinds of learning opportunities available to you and you know things like this this device I said Universal down so just know that more and more we're going to be looking for ways that we can be of service to you guys as far as your learning and helping you out you know on the Fly questions about how to use something that you ordered from 8th I should have an email from Virginia that I need to answer about a device you know we we want to be here too to be of service to you guys I think that's really valuable something that I believe hopefully is welcome I hope is welcome here in the state I'm in and also getting ready for a second from this perspective there's a I think there's a theory or framework or what in the world of professional development is called Just in Time learning we're pretty much the idea is that the second someone has a need there is a way for them to pursue that burning. Got question or have that question asked or you know on demand support and so that I can play out in many different ways but for us I want I want you guys to all know that I'm happy to be one of the first people you talk to you if you got a question about making sense of a new device or prioritizing decision-making or anything or just a question Bradley Pierce ministrator you're happy to help you think through eligibility questions or best practice for services those kind of things we we we we we we are a place where we can be grateful call 3 so just know that we we we are we are here for you we want to be here for you and you're always welcome to call you're never going to wear me out with question so let's see here one more person joined and we're still a smallish group Miss heads do you want to introduce yourself to everybody we we did that a little bit earlier I want to put you on the spot but you can if you're with you on the Alicia page on the special education supervisor in Obion County Schools you're welcome and if you have questions about anything related to Vision where we are here for you you got a lot of great professionals surrounding your picture here on the screen all right so I try to put a little outline here together to keep myself organized the weather at ramble but the next thing says you know New Year in a what's new with the new school year I hope you guys are all settling in well to new school year I hope it feels a little more a little bit more normal in the last couple years I certainly does here in the resource center there's been like a business that I don't think I felt or was hurt about being the case the last couple years I think that's a really good thing so let me know kind of Segway I'm going to share my screen to just kind of give you guys an overview of some updates with hope this is the right thing. you guys should all see my browser window that correct alright alright the best way for you guys to a casual Rosen look up information related to the resource center is to go to tsb's website which if you can see my mouth says tsbtigers. Oh RG finding us there's another Bell Friday the kids aren't here anymore but they still have bells so on on the top of the website you'll see lots of options but primarily I'm going to direct you to our CBI but also as the direct the outreach program just know that we also have our Outreach Services page here I'll do a brief friend through that in a little bit as well but let me first take you to the the homepage where I'm grateful for hey guys they gave me access to come edit things as I like and not have middle man that's been nice to just kind of information you're on here quickly and so on this web on this home page for the resource center you'll see a lot of announcements that I've put up we'll talk about almost all of this and just kind of a few you know over a general you know sections to help you get a acquainted with who we are and what we do and what you should do if you got certain scenarios popping up for you like I do need to order materials for my student or should move from within Tennessee or from out-of-state what do I do now and that'll give you a few no tips for how to get started once we record this video is going to go right down here at the bottom so some of the some of the newness that I wanted to show you guys is that we've got a couple section hear that and keep you up-to-date if you lose track of emails or whatever that's the newsletter section where this year I've sent two newsletters to the date and they are right up here so if you ever aren't sure has been communicated out of us you can find that information here in the website that was from my first newsletter and this is from August update is what I sent out you got a little bit of information about the federal court of program when you're kind of how that works coming out of the resource center I will throw this out there real quick there have been a couple updates I want you guys to know about so just you got to look when you got time it just has to relate to how we will categorize students using the Graco so that we'll need to get out did when we have a sensor in the same thing or something similar with we're no longer using the reading medium called symbolic non-reader you feel like it if so is the more the better way to describe folks as free readers and so more information down here below but yeah you can read that on your own song the next section is ordering where it will take you to the RCV is ordering a portal which I'm sure many of you have seen before we can log-in it welcomes we will go through some Basics 2 later on but that is one way to get there you can also save this address directly under ordering section of the 80 lending library section I'm going to talk about that Justin the second because I'm pretty excited about that but just so what will Circle back with the resources sensor where I just kind of linked out a lot of websites that are pretty confident are really really good places for you to get morning information formation about transition in a website that has been set up and discover this I'm sorry this sensor that's based out of Mississippi State University which is has really good learning modules or how to support books were blind and low vision in the workplace so I you know none of these are official endorsement of the state but I happen to believe that you'll find them useful and so I can check it all out more will be added over time but that's there for you events page where we will update this year to reflect new events coming down the pipe with Tennessee Viva but we also in the meantime already have that. that's been set up on the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center website and so you'll see that the the addresses vkc. Vumc.org Tian Viva let me find where the shadows and I'm going to where is it that they put that in there for you if you guys can save that until I can get things that they don't see us on the TV but here you'll see we've got we just finalized the the program flyer in the last couple days and then go see that lineup of events for the year to come with secure so you can always busy stage and register for what you're interested in and out to see you and previously held events as much as possible we've recorded everything and those will be uploaded to this video section of of the resource center website so you can browse through things that we've held you know Jessica and Tiffany with the rehab did couple really good recessions on what is available to Tennessee students and suggest your look for those those videos we had an obsession about camps available here at tsp and in the Southeast region you know there was a great discussion about kind of the differences and Nuance of approaching math through the code that's been kind of an open-ended discussion still here in the state it goes on and on and you're 2 years worth of this point we were just really proud to say that we've done that and know that most of this is not irrelevant just just you know two years gone by I'm sure they'll be things that old Peak your interest Brent Warren forms page will see where I put things that I've linked to form out elsewhere a r and who is helping you out with the things that you need help with and some basic contact information as well I do want to point out a couple things you guys do this this does come up a lot is number for can my nose infection several forms have been updated notably the resource center application for service any open that up the biggest thing is that I wanted to make sure you guys could type into the fields and I have to hand write that's a to something that I think deserve the same in this day and age so save this updated copy if you have new students that you want to add to the resource center when you have them move in or or whatnot I updated the federal court Arkansas paperwork with a letter explaining everything as before and then there's kind of an updated a place for you to provide to parents to sign if if they're new to the program want to make it very clear that though this is a new form you do not need to get a new form signed my parents if if they've already signed the form and you have it on file in the school district you are in great shape that's fine however if you are not sure that you know where a student's consent to be a part of federal quota is please consider getting to sign by the sea and then uploading it to eZip so that we will not know we will have that on hand in the event that we have to provide that to dph or someone else pretty much is that do not you don't need to get this re-signs if you know where your copies are but I do recommend having this available when you have initial eligibility meetings and you know that a student will qualify that that is there for you bring another document that I put together last school year I was just with us contacting eye doctors when we were in the middle of federal quota or get trying to verify how is students qualifies for the program this letter outlines recurrence eligibility categories which is essentially what they called me definition of blindness and functions at the definition of blindness and they have specific stipulations for what can and cannot be put on the airport so a special when you do not have a 2020 something number that can be determined or peripheral field that can be determined they will accept things like 6 and follow like reception comes fingers and movement object reception and we're where we try to make it very clear is that they cannot use just saying soon don't respond I'm able to test and then you're my amblyopia related notation esmu no Central Study so we just prefer that you can use that on the airport but please in addition ask for these kinds of note is that a pH and it's very specific guidelines through the federal go to program that is what they accept so the form that I've kind of updated and put together it's not a how to stand in for an airport but it's something that families can take to the eye doctor and ask them to provide the basic information that is needed to help us know if a kid qualifies for federal court so go have your supervisor student information the practice the day that everything happened about the you know the condition of what we know about Abel Progressive note give me some room so just kind of provide extra extra information but it all boils down to you based on what they provide document they can then check the box or housekeeping might qualify so if you're under three so we've got folks who are this organization that's starting to really work really get ahold of young kids who have visual impairments and they're getting the mobile services where that's kind of been for quite a few years and so if you're under 30 program and you can have a document if you qualify that's really great finger numbers increase bass to check this box here and then just depending on what's up here in the top doctor can certify based on their professional I did this is helpful I started to see this one come back to us from a few School District the police say the copy for you to have on hand is necessary when you're trying to get to the bottom of what do we know about this kids visual visual conditioning alright let's see what is next on our website or rent what let me deposit or does anybody have questions or was I'll just keep you know do nothing ramble talking hopefully hoping I'm being helpful looking at people's faces mostly looking good sounds good so I emailed about this yesterday and obviously it's one of those things where you send out a newsletter you do people read it I can usually track how many people go into I haven't done it yet I'm really excited about the ATM because for quite a while I've kind of realized that in in the field obviously when you have categories of Eligibility or how people are given experience it's one of those little things like labels labels when you're legally blind call Nicole Pfeifer federal court in that opens up a whole lot about what you have words of resources to you. you're a good product at a pH produces side note got the new update catalog if you didn't notice I was at I was on the website and then I clicked on each page product product catalog 22-23 catalog has been uploaded and so you guys have access to that now to browse the latest on the unit will have to work but I know the latest products and all that are Auntie but anyways so if you've been you know legally blind you qualify for the federal however if you are a low vision student 2401 I only 2150 in the last time well technically speaking you don't you don't qualify for the program and it's fairly rigid about who can be let in and and you know I'm sure I know I'm not and then many other people would not be comfortable judging around trying to get numbers to a point where they can all fun and you know for me students who are low vision it's not the biggest deal because they they they can accommodate for themselves well they're good compensatory still but there are still many students that I've heard about how do students I'm sure who don't meet that eligibility for federal quota and from a visual access employment don't qualify to is the house certain things like video magnifier and that's one you know how to spell it so tough here with products like the Vizio book in the past and now the Jupiter video magnifier the Juno we are both all of them are greatly the only mobile really for purchase for those who qualify for the program so now we we happen to benefit a lot from a partnership that the school has with the Department of directions actually their side of part of that called TriCore where we have a prison Braille program during the state and they have taken on all a good chunk of the rail transcriptions. we have done through the resource center when I went requested by School District on the path we had to Benders and and then you know we pay them you know after we make a decision what would the person doing it we do the agreement with the prison for Braille transcriptions is that that's done for free and it's it's it's it's it's a tremendous we don't pay them but then after they're done transcribing it they can sell it to folks out of wish you many of these are national dishes that you do have value so we thought we had a lot of thinking dr. Martens school superintendent a lot of money and spend it and I said absolutely I love spending money especially ones not mine right we all have that feeling give me a gift card I'm going to make it disappear in a hot minute we what we did was it a variety of things but for this program we were able to buy a good number of the for video magnifiers that are listed here I have some description so you can kind of understand what they are here for what are best for but I do want to break I've already jumped a habit where I want to go just a backpack because we know there are students with low vision technically speaking play something visual Acuity many of them still experience significant need for magnification assistants when they're trying to reprint around school in the environment things like so we were able to buy these devices and make them available specifically for for for these kids so that pretty much similarly to how do people order things through the resource center we can get these to buy two kids do Jennifer looks like mine blown maybe she's got kids in mind but I'm sure many of you guys I talked to some of the school year who know kids who my phone so it isn't you know so all I will say as as as we get this program off the ground is my trust all you guys as Vision teachers we're going to watch this 22 judiciously request devices only when you know this these are kids who truly have that we have we have very good the number of devices but I think you can drive fast cuz I know there are a lot of low vision students here in the states so please just use your best judgement to request for those who are at that time level of need I'm not going to come here and you know that I'll show you in a second but as long as everything's just had a very busy but I will check. I trust you guys and so but just know that we probably will ask a question if you know you know 7 out of 10 low vision students in your in your District are having but anyway so let me just give you an overview of some of these is going on out I have a sorry sorry so that the four devices we have right now are the Ruby 7 HD when you click on that and show you guys my age of 80 acres Juneau video Juno actually have a few extra features like o c r and I think a touchscreen the Ruby actually came first and then they partnered with a pH so this is a stripped-down version of equally equally good for visual access this is one of those devices screen portable and very good for near viewing I'm pretty good at distance to you know you don't have to be in the front row and probably the only limitation I would say is it would be the best for helping you with handle I'm sure you could figure something out there to the next device is called the Clover book plus it's a relatively new device there's a couple different tiers of them this is kind of the middle tier because it is sometimes things like Lucy are either look at it it's very similar to the Matt connects that you may be familiar with that aph have available but notably it's not a Android tablet it's an all-in-one Side Video magnifier device stairs that profile but notably its camera is this is camera is this little you know marker size thing I just kind of flips up there's no no apparent shenanigans that have to happen you know the max next camera has to connect to Wi-Fi and it works really well but no separate pieces this is another device. It's is larger 1.5 in screen so you know if a student is coming in that place of needing some support this would be a better option and also you have to do some cameras Moriah Elizabeth to Premier League available to most students the last two I've marked them down a short-term loan only if you requested I would talk to you directly kind of expectations for how long to hold on to it and and then when we would have requested you send it back to become available for others on the first one HD Ultra Mini it's got a desktop magnified look to it but it's a little bit smaller has a 13-inch screen that's what comes of the remote it's it's showing me but what's great is that in this design portable so you can carry it around the classroom I wouldn't care throughout school but if you're at one class we were to have a certain kind of tasks I find this to be really really need the camera hangs over and in front of the screen versus behind it for a lot of video magnifiers and so were you see this picture down in front of a screen you can also have a worksheet a book workbook in what I love about this style of video magnifier like a lot of desktops is that you it allows you to naturally lean in and kind of rain at a comfortable distance and also can write without save what day of Jupiter video magnifier you can come poking the screen with your nose if you tried to do that and then it's awkward to try to write with her hand on the other side of the screen right where is here the screen of further back up then you're able to lean in and can't look at the good but we have fewer of these and so we we generally would not check these out for the year at a time like we would with other devices and from those expectations but we would just ask that you try it out see if it's something that works for you and then consider it in the time. We talked about document saying how do you spell it is if you want to consider ordering it for your students. I'm similarly the Magnolias cast as a device that is pretty cool it's it is a flex arm cut video magnifier does not come with a screen and see what you would do is connected to a computer using a USB cable and then through software on computer you would see what it sees and this is good practice I would say for high schoolers who might benefit from this order device in a college setting especially if you're saying a lecture hall and you got you know old school dr. Bob uses a chalkboard and whiteboard and you can still magnify and see what they're doing up there so this is something where you know you'd wanted to try this for a little while with a high schooler to see if they're comfortable with that kind of bigamy that process of packing up for class so it's a pretty pretty need to buy that would you like they're going to talk about eligibility to students you should have an IP just because of how we were able to purchase these devices it was through I've marked down eligibility has grade 3 and up because you know third grade is where you start seeing the sizes from well tell you is if if you feel like you have an outlier it was younger as a need talk to me in and we'll we'll we'll we'll figure something out I generally speaking I would like us to stick to this requirement students are not legally blind I may I may change the acrobat in Magnolia Candace to be something that all students can come to request on a short-term basis that I I was trying to get this finalized this week before I talked about Ruth you got so but that's definitely what the Ruby and clover book that these are reserved for kids so trust the process the request we need to have students registered with the resource center I know some districts only register kids with us to know have a need to text books were all types of your federal go to program rest of the processes in our system we need them added on seamless process the end as far as just documentation of the visual impairment we do ask there's a place in the form that I'll show you where you can upload a f e l m a valuation or LG documentation that shows this student needs video magnification that level of support as opposed to lower Tech optical devices like a Dodo magnifier first policies Arkansas just passed out the specifics in the Nuance of the spectrum of 80 or low-tech to high-tech and I asked that before you please request that you do certified that you consider the Spectrum Absolution of did we do everything we could with the materials are we tried doing more handheld magnifiers and and we still have a business where I'm going to certify this most things are going to be most of us are going to be checked out one year at a time and we'll talk about getting those return late if you get a chance this is not going to be used or it isn't working the way you envisioned can't find any routines work seeming to be beneficial please just send it back so we can have available again brother I am going to try to be a little more because I can't readily replenish what we have for the lending library at this time I am going to try keep closer tabs that you know for sure where a device one of these devices lives and similarly I cannot guarantee that if something breaks the whatever reason we we can get a replacement to you here is the application form and I reference needed to submit a some kind of documentation if you need to stay green form or vision or you can kind of just document exactly kind of how was your student interacting with you no school right now lot of places to ask him about some Basics are and then really what I would want dude, you know say is based on what we've seen here we we recommend or we believe that big a magnification will be will be helpful to know if you need to you don't have anything on him just yet you don't have to wait for one of our Outreach teachers to come do it at 18 valuation which would be a little more in-depth test out this form application form where you can provide information District information you know asked me to review the requirements and policies and then upload that documentation in this form for a general overview what are you are you know was it can't be off the board or regular size worksheets and whatever might be all we're really looking for and then what you go through all that you can swipe the device that you're interested in requesting then you can go ahead and submit that'll I'll get notified when you uniquely for this when you submit a request and I will I'll I'll follow up with you to see if it looks good all right questions because this is probably the newest thing that is coming out of the resource center I hope this is exciting things for some of you guys that you think about your students I have a question I know you said that we could do the checklist and so we don't have to wait for an assistive technology evaluation do we still need to request assistive technology evaluation you know you can request them from the Outreach Department your anytime if you really like to drill down and get some more specific recommendations but if based on your TV tuitions and you know you guys all work with your kids you know the most you can just use for this purpose you can use that w e we come from Wisconsin Wisconsin 18 horn to document how your student is going about things and generally speaking expose the gaps or the struggle Nation I'm off work and one more question I have a I have a high school student with a Matt connect cuz he does not like is it possible to maybe request one of the other devices to see if he would like that and send the other one back at this time right away maybe not but if if if they later in the school year not a lot have been requested if you want to Circle back and say I'm happy to come see where we're at I just want to make sure that initially these are available for the kids who haven't had devices available yeah I don't want to be you obviously like when you set something up you have to have kind of parameters and stuff but if there is a little bit of wiggle room here we'll we'll see what we can do and I just want to be fair with you know how we how we set things up but happy to talk out exceptions or personal questions anytime you guys have them all right so that's the lending library let me pull up let me actually go to the newsletters and I'll highlight what we're going to talk about that one and one little tidbit here and I actually of the newsletter I wanted to just let you know that one of the things that threw some feedback from some Vision teachers we're going to try to make a conscious effort to order if you're not already available somewhere or in our building we're going to order you copies of them if if you've got a kid if they're at the materials for a 44 and up where did that line you know depending on the subject we might not do it we're going to start a session for your high schoolers that kind of thing we're going to start trying to order a large print books only in smaller format I profiles so instead of actual hold on a second I'm going to grab some books Al and I have 12 right here okay you guys got something big I have a book that I'm on my phone now cuz I have to go to a different school soon but this is the large print book for and it's like the same size as a I don't have a regular book to compare it to a folder and then it said it's calendar style now so yep my student for sure likes using that rather than pulling out the big ol the idea was especially for older students and we we have all encountered those kids and we've all lived it but then middle school and up where do become really self conscious of every aspect of their life and and specifically in the in the in the realm of supporting them obviously things like iPads and I would have come into the world but I want to try to do it in a way that you'll be willing to use what we're sending you as a student and I are done those are really large traditional saying a really big size large print regular nothing at nothing I'm all blurry Zoom filter this is huge great who was the middle school or High School are necessarily some don't care I get that but many do okay we're pushing to show they would they would choose smaller if it was available so instead of something that's however big that is I think it was like you know 11 and a half by 15 or 10 and a half by 17 I'd rather have something that's a 10 x 13 and smaller eight and a half by 11 is how how big a lot of them are but then when you open it up you do open it calendar format and then you can fold it in half at a time it's still pretty darn big you know maybe not exactly as big as those as those traditional large print books but at least perhaps things will be more willing to use them I think a telling thing that I notice overtime was sometimes we get books back and especially if it's been a literature book that is workbook or in so we we we looked through all the books I can return to us and if it's right in books or hangouts how to erase everything and so it can be reused and sometimes we can't use the book again well we've noticed books where only volume one is consumed only volumes one and two or five volumes total for me it's a suggestion that potentially the student didn't find using it worthwhile over a. Of time because it was just too to jumbo & in the way and so they stopped really riding in the book consuming it the end of the school year and that may not explain every every reason for why that that was the case but we're going to take this approach for a little while and your feedback let us know but just know that you will start finding books in these calendar type of formats in this is kind of why we are going about this we we think they'll get used more and I think that will all the more better better students educational experiences okay don't forget I am going to switch back to the catalogs so I sent you the 8-page catalog very Switching gears here we have a limited number of physical hard copy catalog here at the resource center if you would like a copy shoot me an email and will Wilson with you what will send one to and that way you can kind of just tangibly hand it to a teacher tucana flip through if you like so if you'd like one shoot me an email while we've got them will send them out okay Library okay let's go back to the resource center home where I do want to let you guys know that I hinted at this I talked about it you may have heard at this point the in-person unity conference is back on the is back on the calendar so I scheduled for November 17th and 18th that's a Thursday Friday as usual it's the week right before the week of Thanksgiving OK Google be a half day on November 17th a full day on Friday the 8th and look out for information on how to register I'm going to put a call out for presentation proposals in the next few weeks and so please look out for that but Holly plan to come over we're going to celebrate just be excited that you're we are we're still going at it and we're all going to know we're at work we're here together for the betterment of kitchen I think I think the theme I want to go with you because a conference house that would be my guess is onward in excellence and I guess where that comes from for me is me and the last two years have been challenging is who knows what's going on but the we we are persistent we're your persevering what we're going to do it together and we are going to do it with this desire to continue to grow as Professionals in excellence because our kids benefit when we have them until so I think that's where I'm going to go for a conference but we are going to look out for information spread the word get excited invite whoever you know what it would benefit from being at this Council and hope to see you there all right well I'm here in announcements another thing that I highlighted in the my newsletter is we are in quarter spend on time so pleased that you have or get with your teachers or think about what you need to work with them well and order those materials the deadline I've been given by a pH is September a little bit after 6 which I put down here but please get your orders in by that that Friday okay so I have time to figure out if there's anything left what we're going to do about okay have to be 50/50 the end after that time you can still order because you do what you always have continuous access to the program but for this fiscal year you know these are FSA style funds and we've got to use them or we lose them and we want to show that we need we want to show them cheer in Tennessee but also as a program you want to show the government that this is still valuable needed money you never want to see when you know pulled so consider what your students need you know anything about those materials and get it ordered no lie to you guys I think the Montgomery County got a lot of orders in the last few days and we're going to put them all through for you so please work on that all of you guys okay last thing on my circle back here is that you know we're really excited to be partnering with the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center Elizabeth here on the calls with the Kennedy Center and she's been a big help helping me Rachel platten you know compile and take what we had kind of thrown together ourselves as last 2 years and put it together in a cohesive package here on the new Center website one of where we're now we are finally one of many things that they can have their pants on and then are able to spread the word about Statewide as well as out of state so I just know super well-known here in the state and Nationwide in the All Things special education education broadly and so we we couldn't be more excited to eat in a part of okay I am pretty much I think at the end of the all the main things I wanted to touch on for this school year the only thing I have remaining to talk about is to walk through how to place orders for those who have not done this before so does anybody have questions before I go through and do a quick overview of things to look out for and what we recommend as first steps to take shaking their heads so I'm going to I'm going to assume that all of you guys let us assume that you've been able to login and this is what you're going to see all right you seen the resource center online ordering and federal quota program registration I like to call it the online ordering portal ender portal you'll see in the address bar in many people have been told this before it's our program runs through a program a software called Claus klassi from that place doesn't really mean a lot to TGI's now in school so really just if you heared cost run around at some point where you see it somewhere and it it means it has something to do with ordering from the resource center okay I like to say ordering portal because that just makes me alright so here's a bunch of Welcome information. I put together for you guys really what you should follow if you're new to this is to read the ordering to Shu because how most orders where we run into the most issues is when someone starts in order by going straight to add are all the quest and then they find out on the telephone they can't find Stinger order in for in a drop-down and then when we try to fix it with MacKenzie Bourg quickly they have to start all over it lose their progress and we would love for you to kind of discover on the front and that you might not be associated with the student verses on the talents you don't frustrated so please know that the first step I would say once you log in you're going to use the find student / districts which is nestled under Patron what's inside that you can see a bunch of things you can search by the easiest thing will be just to use name absolutely no it or you can search because I'll show you all the students in your District I won't use that feature because I can see everybody and that's a privacy no no but I'm going to spoil myself hold on Washington should be doing when they're okay and so you were once you search for or find the student you want to order for then you'll see all the details okay which are mostly related to cuz I don't go to process we're at the top is where you can school all right where you can select add material request in this house because if you don't see the student in your list for one reason or another that'll mean you're not associate so we can look that up I do that on the front end is supposed to go bring later on that you can actually pick the kid you want your orders for so I slept it a student you're going to add material request now you're greeted with catalog search search box in Next Door by I'm actually discovered that the sort by doesn't really work if it'll take whenever you given this point most people are here to order either a textbook or or a book right now has an ISBN number or an 8th product if you're going to take notes today the one thing I want to distinguish is when you search by ISBN do not glue dashes when you have an ISBN number most of the time they'll start with 978 the new books are 979 but if you have a nice your number do not use a dash is because when you look at a book back by barcode it does have Dash's we don't include those pretty purposes if you were searching in for an aph product by Bai it's a catalog number please do use dashes those do matter so that's distinction I want to drop off for you guys but actually does not matter whether or not you slept a face number description or any of that so let me ask you Ali pull up the Catalan and we'll do a quick search and I will text books that My Views I'm getting old send say that let's say that you heard about the chameleon 20 Braille display the aphs and it's really exciting compact 20 cellpro this way and you want to wear it I'm going to find that catalog number in the catalog or on the way and I'm going to copy and then I'm going to come back to the church and I'm going to fix it in there do a search okay and chameleons will come up this piece of technology we do have a status that says requires authorization some devices specifically the high-dollar items may say this that either says so in the description that we asked for an eight evaluation be completed it has been done send that to us otherwise you can use the the wall the checklist as well we just want to know that this is truly something that's going to be appropriate for students all right so let me so if I say we found this and we want to order it when I check the box we're going to splice add selected lines to material request green refresh aesthetic you might think oh shoot nothing happened but let me direct your attention to the top right-hand corner of the screen under material request where has the Troll Quest lines and then now that you see the chameleon 20 is there so I'm ready for the next the next thing I'm looking for and I haven't have a textbook here and I'm going to type in it is p.m. number 97803 28949 298 Miller and Levine biology this is a new high school textbook pretty pretty pretty well used during the state or you breed a I guess you see that we have to it comes up to hun monster trucks that move some of this to the top but where it says notice at the bottom where it says format Grail format large time we don't want to order the wrong for math you will probably notice cuz we know what students are what type of learning but generally speaking just now know that this distinction is made there and so noticed he's different status items so real copy okay in stock at right at RCV we can ship it out you know probably the next business day I will pull it off the shelf box it up a couple labels on there and it's heading your way you'll get it you'll get it within the week getting pretty good at that here in the large prints okay it says all copies checked out but available for work if you see that don't be discouraged just means once we see your order I'll I'll see it we don't have any and I will just place it is we know where we can get it we aren't we will get it and that's what has to happen so you can kind of understand what to expect they're all right so but let me say all I want this real textbook my student is a braille learning a tattoo the material request and it refreshes and here we go in the top right corner two bullet points with both both of those items so pretty much this is how it works with our ordering system you are loading up your car here request is your car and I I change the language of this link down here you just a old is that a back to material request and if it did not have the it didn't seem to communicate like you know proceed to check out and complete order it right so now it says view all items and complete order so hopefully that makes it a little clear to all of you guys who are new to the ordering process looks like that I'm ready to go and what I need and I'm really pleased and here I see my cart at the material request I see the items they should all be there and here's where you can actually edit the quantity of something that you need if you ordered say binder paper or something where is reasonable to order multiple of add it to the material request once and then change the quantity in on this page okay you can leave quantity alone you can put didn't even if you'd like or we can't really once we order something and it's a little bit out of our control so will will take that as guidance but we will do our best but I can't promise anything as far as meeting a specific date they reviewed everything if you're ready to go we're going to select Next Step at the bottom of the material request screen okay and then at that point you'll see if I'm in for pre-populate because we picked our students first remember that okay so school will be in there your school district the teacher name which should be you and then the student that you selected right off the bat I'll be in their shipping information should be in there as well based off of your your your ID profile okay instead of everything there looks good you can pretty much proceed to completing your quest if you a specific note that you want to leave you can take that down gears when will will see that come up it comes into our system just like that and we we get to work figuring out when it happened so that's all what kind of ordering in a nutshell if anybody has questions I can answer those but otherwise 228 in a couple minutes before our official anytime but again so glad to have everybody here I think it's going to be a good school year better for some reasons that we're feeling like how many senses were moving past some of the stress of the last couple months I know there's still things going on that are stressful but you know thanks for being here later on and then again know that if there's any way you think we can help
