good afternoon csb families thank you for joining us today for our annual Title 1 and our family engagement meeting so tonight I have with us my self tan today to the principal we also have with us I've dr. Martin director of schools start to Allen chase our assistant principal Miss Andrea word a social worker dr. Karen Blankenship or IEP coordinator and Miss Kelly Benton a director of federal programs you can find this PowerPoint on our website at ww.w TSB Tigers. Org we were here for my director School dr. Dr. David Martin all right. Thank you Doctor Dandy can you hear me okay yes alright well I just wanted to quickly welcome everyone to the meeting you did not TuneIn live we're obviously going to try to put a recording of this on our website so you can go back and view it at any time but we appreciate you taking time to either be here or listen to the recording I just wanted to quickly give some updates obviously we've been very very busy with starting this school year in a very in a most unconventional way and putting together I've been working diligently with the school just a pain to change this morning plan we set up this is the first year we've offered a hybrid option for some students it shows a hybrid option and so we've got a lot of things going on just to make sure that school can be conducted in a safe manner for our students and staff if you come to campus so you know you'll notice that there's a lot of social distancing going on everyone's wearing a mask while in class and in common areas yes it's been modeling masking but we're all in our offices so that's why are you see a majority of I mean some of us are I have already made it home and then we're enjoying from home so so we're taking extreme precautions with cleaning and sanitation stations are all over the place and we're really just trying to Tennessee Department of Health and safety guidelines to ensure that were conducting at work in school as safely as possible we still will be trying to concentrate on our plan which was unveiled last year and those four components of the Strategic planner suit an excellent staff Excellence operational excellence and Community excellence and so obviously we are working on our academic programs here last year we went through a rebranding and our life just became a poor alternative Academic Program because there's a change in the diploma and the other and our cities are working towards and I was trying to get back at a diploma there are tap program which is a 10 ready program and then we have a transition programs as well will be hopefully getting our work-based learning program back up and rolling at the full capacity once virus conditions allow us to do that and kids will then be able to travel safely off-campus but there's a lot going on here we we have a I am proud to say that we are now finishing our 5th week of school and we've had very little Interruption due to the coronavirus Iris so we have done very well I think it and I have to take my hat off to the to the administration faculty and staff for working so diligently to make sure set those guidelines that we have put in place are followed so I thank you everyone who is it was made this possible for the last five weeks and I'm just hoping for a 6 week now so but thank you very much and I'm glad to be here and I'm looking for sharing information out of everyone else for the rest of the week thank you Doctor Martin wandering families a bit about that so we are here because every student succeeds Act is also called as a requires that each school that is receiving Federal money called title one holding annual meeting with our family and so tonight we will be informing you about how tsp participation title one we will also explain the requirements of Title 1 and we will explain your rights as parents and family members and how you can be involved so what will we learn so let me just talk about a few questions that might be asked so what are your rights how can Title 1 be used what is the school Improvement plan also known as tip what are a school-wide program goals what does it mean to be a Title 1 school and also what test will my child be take there are multiple questions that you may have tonight we hope to provide some of those answers Miss fly so what is a Title 1 School Title 1 was passed in 1965 under the elementary and secondary Education Act the largest federal assistance program for our nation School Title 1 schools receive extra funding or a few dollars from the federal government and we use some of these dollars to identify students experience State academic. provide assistance to the students also will you Title 1 funds to purchase additional staff program and materials and or supplies to help teacher student we also conduct parent and family engagement meetings as well training event and over additional activities don't what are some what are some of your rights in parents and families so under Title 1 students have a right by law to be involved in the decision-making at the school and district-level you're entitled to be provided with information on your child's level of achievement on a test that involves reading and language arts writing mathematics and science out of town when you are all so you can request and receive information on the qualifications of your child's teacher and any paraprofessionals that are working with your child and please call the school office at 615-231-7397 to request information we also have posted this information on our website and also in us go ahead and book also as a title one school you have the right to request opportunities for regular meeting time to 422 form questions and suggestions participate in decisions about education of your child the school is required to respond to any suggestions as soon as practically possible next one what can Title 1 funds be actually actually used for Title 1 funds may be used to hire extra teachers and education assistance are School staff extra time for instruction before or or after school programs parent and family engagement activities in a variety of supplemental materials how is our school used title for the school year 2020 21 our school is has approximately $159,947 Title 1 funding stakeholders we came up with a school-wide program which means we plan to spend our funds on the following supplemental staff programs and materials and supply literacy and numeracy and also teacher professional development so what is the school in Improvement plan so the school Improvement plan includes information about the identification of the school planning team and how will we how we will Converse are there any gays in the planning process the school Improvement plan also talks about needs assessment and it also gives a summary of her academic and non-academic data the school Improvement plan also prioritizes goals and strategies and actions to help us address academic and non-academic needs of students it also discusses budget and coordination of resources as well as teacher and Stanford professional development needs the school must include family representative on our school that is so important so what are a school-wide program goals as mentioned earlier we are focusing on literacy no mercy and that's students understanding of the relationship of numbers we are also developing developing portfolios for transition age students sorry about that myself what is parent and family engagement plans address the district and School District requirements of ESS a focus on restore contact OfferUp or suggest any activities information triangle be provided to the families and families and staff for strong parent family engagement and as a school social worker totally involved in this and also working with TSP I madman Trading Spaces where we can strengthen our family engagement relationship and parents should remember as a child one parent or family member you have the right to be involved in any plans as we any plans decision-making or activities it is a partnership spine The District parent and family engagement policy can be found on our school website wtsb Tigers. Org you can always go there you can take time to peruse through that and also on both days are registration we shared the family engagement policy on July 31st ratify okay so can we have these three points were going to focus on so the first one we have shared responsibility as I stated it is a partnership it's where the schools are reach out to families and support families and help him to an active listening actively supporting the Children's Learning and Development and we do understand here in a tsp that there are berries to that we understand it schedules are different and some were very understanding and we support that the next one of family engagement continuous is an ongoing process it is typically something that will start child's life when they're little and will go into when they are mature young adult again would you understand there are barriers but it is a commitment made any partnership you know the level of response and again at TSB we will support our family effective family engagement cuts across the Ring of horses learning in multiple settings this is very very true so effective family engagement and that reinforce the child's learning so go from the classroom programs after school or even face base institutions or within the community engagement will be involved be aware of what's going on and who ever is working with a child will know what's going on and it will communicate you can see how this will turn us follow them depending on what setting their in you're muted this word I'm so sorry I'm not sure of course we have the family and we have our school are we are teachers that are set so for the students higher grades and test scores solutely studies show that the greater the the family is engaged with a child a higher grades and the test scores and this is chili because when there's effect of family engagement the family or parents are aware of what the child is studying their wear for their teacher is and it's easier to troubleshoot any issues nature better attendance more positive attitudes and better Behavior if there's a positive attitude at all about school typically the child will have a positive attitude in the classroom graduation rate greater enrollment poster for parents and families more confidence and Trust in the school and this is something that you know we would love and we take very seriously we want our family trust us and know that we have the students interested heart when it comes to their education increase confidence in their parenting skills trace the home environment environment that engages learning encouraged his family to form a stronger relationship with teacher golden teachers teacher and staff morale higher ratings of school teachers by Family more support from family Tire student achievement and this one will not increase in relationships within the that goes back to Regionals multiple settings what is the the School parent Compact and commitment that outlines how both the school and our Community Partners that includes parents families students any of our stakeholders how we're going to share responsibility for improving student achievement the contract includes a variety of things and one of those that includes is how the school is going to work with you as Community Partners to ensure that were sharing our expectations with you and that we're meeting your standards and that we're working improve student achievement so we're going to do that by communicating with you are high quality curriculum in instruction we're going to share with you how you can have parent-teacher conferences we're going to provide opportunities for you to have access to teachers and other school staff we're going to keep you informed of your students progress we are going to have opportunities for you to volunteer and we're also going to have meaningful to a communication so this is how we as the school are going to make a 10-minute to you you make sure you are involved and that we are doing our part in the engaging you as a educating your student this disappearance School contacts can be found in the student handbook and also on the school website organic beer School parent compact it is reviewed annually by our stakeholders and it is updated as needed and there's updates are made available in a variety of ways I'm School website and student handbook and also at school events such as registration so you may be asking yourself how do we provide instruction to our student and we do it this way we use a common set of Standards called the Tennessee academic standards and these standards or expectations for what students and what they will be able to do at the end of the school year by grade and by subject area Tennessee academic standards form the framework for everything taught at Tennessee School for the Blind so we use these standards school-wide you are welcome to view this to Tennessee academic standards at at the website listed on your screen as well as you can see you can review the status at Tennessee School for the Blind I website where we Implement curricular recommended by the Tennessee Department of Education so on this slide in the following slides you will see a grinch shirt it's rather small so you may have some difficulty seeing it this chart is available on our school website for anyone who would like to look at it in more detail and I'm just going to do a quick overview of what is included on slide and the the following few slides tsv participate in the Tennessee comprehensive Assessment program or otherwise known is TCAP and there are several subcomponents to TCAP first we have given to students through 8 there's a surface are given in science social studies English language arts and Mathematics we also have end of Call end-of-course exams are given to high school students in select classes end-of-course exams could be given either in the fall semester or in the spring semester depending on the length of the course if it's a year-long course the EOC will be administered in the spring and if it's a one-semester course then it is administered in the fall in addition to those assessments we also have TCAP alt this is significant disabilities it is given to students in grades three through eight and also to select students in high school and covers both science and social studies we also administer the msaa this again is for students that have significant disabilities the MSA is given to students in grades three through eight and in high school for select students and Vac assassin's both English language arts and math we also eat spring we administer the access 2.0 assessment this is an assessment for our students your English language learner and finally also administer the ACT this test is administered to Juniors or seniors and it can be administered in either the fall or the spring semesters and again if you have if you need more information on these assessments this information is available on the school website or you can also contact the school locks did you go over the access start your Chase I did that was for the English language Learners sorry call parents and families you may ask yourself what how can I be involved I just know that we need you and we welcome your participation research shows that family engagement in education has a huge impact in a positive way on student achievement than any other Factor so to get involved with us home improvement we have to choose volunteer to serve on the S I P committee known as our school Improvement plan
