all right I think we're off and running good morning afternoon whatever 11 means to you guys glad to have everyone here at this Tennessee Vita training today's session is called the keys to success strategies for developing strong typing skills my name is Alan Wong I'm the director of the research center for the visually impaired and Outreach Services Tennessee School for the Blind so many of you guys do you know who I am I know most of you guys if you are new to us feel free to chime in in the chat and share how you found us or what you do where you work love to get to know you I don't get to do trainings too often anymore because of what my role is but my background for those of you guys here is an assistive technology within this this great field of working with kids with visual impairments and have a have a passion for what some may call not the funnest thing out there teaching typing it is so so important and I hopefully I'll be able to catch a bit of that passion not come off super dry and and just kind of you know what I say sometimes try to find you guys up to understand see what I see in terms of what is unlocked for our students when they can type well in another little more practicing you know certainly within our population there are many many different students with very Rachel needs I'm going to try to attack this from a very broad perspective in terms of priorities and strategies and certainly if you have questions about specific students specific knee feel free to ask those questions and we were I'll do my best to give a given form response when else has good thoughts collaborative just me talking because I know I am quite good at all right so the keys to success all right guess who Jeff is coming through Jim Carrey I actually don't know what movie this is problem you know it's one of those things where these days you know where memes and gifs you see them but you lose track of where they came from because everyone's trying to come put the next one but hopefully by the end of this we will be so fired up we will want to empower our kids to be like Jim Carrey accept more more appropriate but maybe that quickly and with that kind of confidence and so let that be how we're kicking this thing off all right so as a as an overall agenda for today's session and we're going to try to work quickly. We have H I want to talk about a few things which is the importance of typing how it applies to this field issues with typing that is a visual impairments often experience as far as including the interaction of typing with that fits into the use of computers and this is mostly focus on computers yes there are keyboards and virtual keyboards on our phones and tablets and things like that we really focus on the fundamentals of using computers which yes you know the world is moving in certain directions it it would appear but at the same time I'm sure many of you guys in your classrooms looking at you for your kids and my kids are using computers at school but computers are still there they're very key parts of the educational experience and I would argue there are still huge parts of the work experience in spite of what many will tell you about us moving phone phone something something world so this is where we're going to remain grounded as Professionals in recognizing that computers are so relevant in our kids will need explicit Direct Construction in in some of these skills to be able to become proficient and effective right and so will you work with your students and ultimately some strategies for developing those typing skills super specific however as we talked ask questions and we can ask do we get specific with that discussion all right so the importance of typing kind of alluded to type is a universal fundamental access skill and it's facilitates an individual's productivity I like to think of a txso looks like technology as having three categories in a your access to print materials your access to digital consuming it to produce your individual work your individual communication and this is where that fits typing okay produce taking your thoughts putting it on paper and is it is a much-needed skill for our students individuals will find a way so that they could be proficient whatever they find to do in school at work on their own at at home at Grandma's house at the library right the the ultimately I think when that happens you you it allows folks to develop a very strong you know I love this word self-efficacy is part of what I did for my dissertation research that sense that I can do I can I can bring about a certain outcome so when we have these skills it puts us truly in a good place where we feel like what I need to do in terms of communicating and and collaborating and using the internet whatever using computers I can do it is so all right let me let me pause here and ask a question for you guys were here to type your responses and chat feel free to unmute and and a voice voice your thoughts Landscaping or even find the need to type 2 keyboard to the bee you know him putting our thoughts and responses what are you guys common places that we find the need to talk maybe we all are in the metaverse I don't know Suzanne said Susan journaling classroom instruction absolutely right so much as getting digitized right we used to have our black and white notebooks and writing there sometime now we are supposed to type it out Grace says to complete assignments on schoology Google Classroom absolutely Jennifer's have Google classroom assignments Communications school-related job-related aliases Academia right if you want to move on and and and go to grad school and do a thesis will your social settings absolutely right a lot of our communication is not just calling and texting we may have things where we may need me to send the emails for various reasons and in a lot of that it probably behooves us to do that effectively as possible so he's a really good responses are in the secondary question. What are the risks for proficiency with typing what do we what do we think of is what if we lack strong skills what are we at risk what are students at risk of having yeah can't communicate effectively poor grades I really like to answer misinterpret communication right if we just make mistakes just kept I post things like that yeah and abilities a difficulty getting a job frustration times and Barracks we are professionals cast with equipping our students with the skills to be strong participating contributing members of society part of that is to equip them to be job ready and in so many drops that our kids are really well suited for you know when we think about the world of 80 and accessibility you know there are really good tools for helping our folks use computers they can to all sorts of jobs if they have knowledge and skill set and this is one of those skills that will unlock a tremendous amount of opportunity post-graduation so great responses and I appreciate all that apricots here are some of the army to use computer does all over Google Classroom office is be were in Office 365 school so I'm lb weigh on at work emails all day internet research jump on your favorite web browser and learn what you got to learn you know we got to type into the address bar the Google search bar websites have their own Surgical do they have links Galore you know how do we access all that much less their programs that come up in life that we need to be using right so now thinking specifically are soon to Bishop Arrington play me a different arguably more challenging experience in in using computers everyone here would agree with that what are some of those challenges that you feel like supervision panels individuals with visual impairments experience when they're using computers low vision folks folks who are blind cannot see what are some of those challenges got more difficulty accessing right if you have severe visual impairment seeing the text on the screen may may be difficulty learning yo shortcuts you're you you won't be able to efficiently get around the computer or do what you you do have this additional effort before proofread that is absolutely think if we lack confidence with moving around within the document we may just you know our first thoughts and and and just send it off right in an email or or submit it to teacher and we're at risk of exposing ourselves as having a very poor spellers having very poor sense of literary convention not using proper punctuation all these things are wearing in school and in the workplace they said that that that Bri comes from you know having having Warcraft visual access for sure Cole says extended session longer amount of time spent to express their intentions absolutely to know what you want to say but having a simple statement takes 5 to 10 minutes to say tsp and when you come in every day I'm going to email every you know I didn't send it before they showed up at everyone intercedes they're all logged on to the computers and I could have it I'm about to send the proper today and we would time how long it took them to get their responses back sometimes the prop was copied and send it back to me sometimes it was open and it but you could see the difference in times it would take students depending on their proficiency with typing to send these things back would it be to to to not be able to quickly respond to email and ultimately that is something that could be a detriment to you if you're in the workplace that's not a competitor proficient level of if it takes you you know 5 minutes to respond to something that is a one-sentence statement right so when we think about our sins with visual impairments you know they can be broadly about 80 things like that man you guys are familiar. There are solutions like accessibility features that you can pull up give me some windows if you have Windows you you're going to the ease of Access Center you'll see a barrage of a wide variety of really useful built-in tools for improving visual access individual experience on Windows computers is tremendous beyond that there's Windows magnifier which is a free magnification software built-in resume tax which is a paid screen magnifications off Windows computer on even more so improve your visual access to the computer and a a certain point maybe that's not and you're going to use the screen reader okay your visual your efficiency and accessing the computer is not efficient enough you're going to start using where are you what's on the screen is less important to you than it is to be able to hear what was going on and know how to get to where you need to do your work okay so tell him that all in mind like I said your efficiency with access to the computer may start to lack that and I want you to really think about this with your TV I have your vision professional has in terms of elements when we do learn oftentimes it is to ultimately make a decision on your best learning media to use across the school day and potentially even across your your your whole day is it Prince of some form large prunes regular print with magnification or ultimately are you going to be more proficient using Braille Braille related to Solutions here we get to a point where our big visual access Melo May no longer be the most efficient solutions for you so then we start seeing things like navigating where the computer environment programs being less efficient and we're relying on our eyes their traditional look move the cursor in the mouse train clicking and then we we find that keyboard commands typing out response all that is is more efficient this is kind of where were situated and where were this brings us to today basic principles one slide I think I after most of what I know you don't really try to share with folks that I talk to you about keep typing the keys to success that's that's our that's our that's that's what brought us all here today we are I summarize it this way you we we want to prioritize developing typing form accuracy and speed of course or individual letters or the modifier Keys which what is the modifier key guys what would what would be an example shift control caps lock all those can be be modifier keys for a backspace isn't really one but hopefully you get the idea all the berries keys how to keyboard to some extent and how you're going to find them form accuracy and speed and we'll get to why I I do save I do it's those in that order on purpose and what we'll talk about that for a knowledge of the keys will allow our fingers or hands to remain on the keyboard much as possible our kids will have Wes fingers and hand movement between the keyboard and the mouse if their visual users and there will also be less a movement between the keyboard in the screen all right now I'm just curious just to you to lighten the mood you're how many of you guys might be a little guilty when you're typing you know you guys are looking down at the keyboard and then you're looking out I hope I real what I text was it on there you know or is it is that is that you guys all some heads or the flip side the ideal and what were aspiring for how many you guys feel there confident in your typing and you do not have very much head up and down action as as you're taking emails or documents you do feel better coughing and when time in or thumbs up. Kind of thing I need to feel pretty good okay Alicia feels pretty good okay that's the goal and because all of that reduces our efficiency department or continually if you see something that you need to do on the computer you know you're filling out a form online and you have to take your mouse and click on one field and then go back to the Ford and type it and then go back to your your mouth and go and click on the next field pretty slow or what you can do is an example in the field once you're done typing your response which you could you would teach this concept to assume have takes you to the next meal and just like that you can start typing principles like that aren't examples of how we improve our proficient and an ultimately fundamentally the last key I would argue is that proficient keyboarding is non-visual I'm getting called we want our eyes if your visual user or you all hear your low vision students or students who do not use their eyes to some extent to access the computer we want our eyes on the screen as much as possible because again back and forth is very disruptive it slows us down physically and also it presents a challenge for some in terms of finding your place when you're going back to the screen especially. we're very busy webpage it is it is important that we approach it this way and then also we want to focus more on auditor individual confirmation that the key or command was prester executed correctly so this is where we're going to work off of the rest of the rest of today all right strategies for developing typing skills because this is the Bedrock skill that folks need a master when they are getting their typing skills in place we need to orient ourselves on keyboards you're independently proficiently MW from the get-go the tried-and-true QWERTY keyboard you know don't talk to me if you're you know you do love those weird alternative keyboards my brain doesn't have space for you know you know redoing it at work we're stuck with the Corgi world so it's been set up so we've got the orientation. The math inject surely you guys all know this and maybe you're so used to it you don't even think about it but appinject every nearly every keyboard there's some some out there that are it is silly that they leave that out but it's very it's standard practice to have orientation dolphin fnjn if your keyboard or your laptop has as a notepad the five on their right in the center also has. And the whole idea is that was your oriented correctly you'll be able to access every other cheap you need to I might I might qualify actually like you know the function keys the number Keys you may not rely fully on as as automatic of a your muscle memory reaching in that kind of thing but certainly the the most prominent modifier key Used to Know Tab caps lock shift and control the Windows key all the keys baseball those the arrow keys and all the leg enter those should be part of that very automatic I know how to get there same thing with the numbers if I know where 5 is well you know you're one key away from every single other number someone should look this up for me on phones I think the numbers are different than keyboard I think keyboards it's 123 on the bottom but I think I'm selling this one two three on top videos okay so just just putting that out there if you're teaching this concept for on computers it is 123 on Bob and I don't know how it is I'm calculator so let's keep going here as we think about Orion team on the keyboard like I said appinject and we lay our fingers down on the Home Run pinky finger and your thumb should generally be on the space bar that's how we get started and this is where you should start with your students you know how does that look for them can they get started that way each finger and then where you go where you go from there if you teach each finger has its own responsibilities we don't want him to be selfish how many of you guys have kids who are pointing finger only their dinosaur kids and and and listen I understand some some kids in some individuals can get very far in Life or in their work just pounding away but I promise you I will smoke them on a typing test I can I'm better and I'm a purple person eater okay it is more optimal to use individual fingers when you have that dexterity so surely you know there are certain individuals you know other other other conditions and in situations that that's going to prevent the different consideration but when you have to only deal with its responsibilities got it so you can teach that and I'm not going to talk into the specifics about what finger goes to what you can you can look those things up various programs and guides can walk you through that kind of sequins and the assignments but initially we want to teach what those responsibilities are you can you can do that b**** with for those who are visual okay that's fine but why what stresses it is extra helpful I think to to promote a cognitive model for your students and how they think through this and then you can do that by talking out loud with Rich auditory descriptions of the actions of finger should take it supports a let's find the letter T right remember you're on the home room let's find letter T so so maybe when you close your eyes and let your hands on your keyboards right let's find the letter T guys you use your left finger is on the upper row going to reach it your left pointer finger is going to reach up and to the right right and and you know I'm pretty much that. That's one example I'm not going to play with that's perfect there's different ways to it to go about DVDs description but you're you're you're walking them through that thought process of how how it works initially you can so here's I'm going to I'm going to try to say this carefully initially I would say especially with kids who are totally wine their folks folks who don't have that visual component that they're going to be using as well I think I'm personally okay with them sliding their fingers say like you could even talk to me through initially sliding from the F up your field going straight up will take him to our and then to the right one is to just to help him develop that it's almost like a no-name concept of how to arrive at after their destination Landmark okay to build that concept however that way you would want to eat you would not want that to be what they rely on full-time we want our students to truly from F know that to get T there left pointer finger is going to reach directly diagonally directly for cheap and we will we will be talking about your accuracy him and all that comes with this is this is what's fundamental in teaching typing but I feel really passionately about that the teachers this is where we make a difference for our kids especially those who you know of course it's easier to encourage them to use a just sitting in front of a typing program and there's great ones out we might talk about it later but this is where we can make an impact or when we do a lesson the lesson should not be used sitting watching your kids use typing club right your lesson should be really Drilling in how certain fingers should reach up or down or side-to-side to get to certain things so think about it so hopefully resonated with me my points something's that will assist with this process I would say use blindfolds or keyboard covers to reduce that Reliance on visual Act you know many students went through challenging times and not use their eyes still still try to peek and things like that a blindfold is probably the easiest way to go about this there are keyboard covers where you can fit them on top of the keyboard under a blank centrally but as of keyboards that that's a little bit little bit of a challenge I've also used stand of sorts for computers and I'll see if I can pull it up later but you can mount or you can you can set it up so that the stand goes over the keyboard and you can see the keys essentially whatever strategy you can come up with to discourage them using their eyes or prevent them that's one thing that will truly get them to rely on the knowledge that you're giving them on work he's our that's what trying to we'll get across and to assist with that to replace that visual reliance turn on your screen readers use drawers you have to be DEA set them to make sure that they're set to have the the feedback as character by character so that after practicing a bit individual reach in a Word document for example you know if they reach and presti and it says T you can really praise that and your work your way through whatever you want this all that is to assist Learners with not relying on your eyes especially if they're still visual all right so that's that's for informants again but I would argue is the most important piece of this good form is crucial to developing accuracy because if we're not using correct fingers you know we're allowing them to be selfish or you know you're instead of instead your pointer finger you're using your middle finger to go hunt around for things or your pointer fingers doing too much right that will you because it's not as you're the richest not natural it will likely lead to more errors or to have accuracy you'll be more Reliance on vision and in that case you will still be slower and so you see how regardless what you do cheats user may try to use they will ultimately it will ultimately peak in terms of how efficient they can be so good form is crucial to developing accuracy continually reaching for Keys correctly will build muscle memory and this is where typing is not fun at a certain level because you just drill this is where typing program can be helpful because they can build in either games or silly passages or whatever it is that will allow the drills to be less left oh my gosh you know come stuff but if it needs to happen you need to do it a lot okay so have lessons incorporate opportunities to continually do something the same way because this will lead to long-term consistent accuracy and again these are things that we want to really praise with our students as as they are developing their skills I don't know if I'm jumping too far ahead concept why is but one example of something that I I always thought was nice things to do with kids is when you know certain keys or sometimes I even start with their names you should be the world's fastest typer of your name answer for me hey with two L's and an E A L L E N I am I am I'm telling you straight up guys I'm the world's fastest typer of Allen sometimes it looks like alien because I make it weird I do make mistakes sometimes but that kind of game for caitian the silliness you know pick silly words right let's type it as fast as possible or just practice it and do it over and over get as fast as possible and be more motivated think you can text silly word an appropriate but I can be motivated and and again you know you can build in that competitive game of vacation of being fast work or or what and what I would write when I feel strongly about again self-advocacy the belief that I can I can do something self-efficacy from knowing that you have good for monocracy when you're when you're telling your kids over and over that was awesome you are beautifully no mistakes or your accuracy you know the program's telling me your accuracy is 95 and up you know you are doing so great with reaching with the right finger I've been looking at you you you can get heated when when when when when kids really get built up in that sense them knowing for themselves you encouraging them it will again I truly believe it will result in stop being so much more willing and incontinent in just doing it and no longer relying on either visual or even auditory confirmation that what they're trying to type is it on-screen or or hurt and B this is where speed comes from okay so you know me and my 70-plus words correct per minute toot my own horn right when I would do lessons with students and try to you know not to shame them or make them feel bad or anything but when I would try to get a point across I just look him in the eye eye look right out of I'm looking at the ceiling right now. Just just talk to me I will type everything out I can keep up with you as you're telling it to me and I would do it right and that's because I am super fancy words efficacious in my belief that I can do this we want to get our kids to the same point we we we want them to know that they have good skills there in when when that is you know when when it clicks we we always thought that we would have clicked for them that's where you're going to see speed take off and and then be able to really see if you're there silence or produced on time those kinds of things. That is one of the biggest things were looking for okay so forum accuracy and speed free three basic right there all right so how have you been how do we how do we get there there was doing and I would say start with the next part 2 2 2 okay is asking yourself what needs to happen what do I need to do we want to teach hotkeys and shortcut commands for common functions navigation shortcut convention has continually using Google Classroom there are dedicated shortcuts to use with in Google Classroom you know I ordered for example of Zoom has different short Stan Google meet those nuances that we need to teach depending on the software you're in so if you want to turn off your video mute yourself these are things you'll want to teach because they're very common important to know that when I say navigation shortcut conventions mostly when I mean is in a lot of traditional programs you have file settings or help what kind of thing did you know you can get there by simply hitting bolt which is next to the space bar so if you're these are those programs where they pull up and they're still kind of have a great eye gray menu bar at the top all to get you up there and then you can actually use your arrows to navigate through all that and often times when you go into those menus that open up open up file you'll see even more indications of shortcuts so you may see in various programs in a menu That's certain parts of that menu if in a word a letter in that word is underlined and what you know about their words that are with where one letter of the word is underlined within a menu okay and what that means if you never seen that or now you're going to find that I was going to see it everywhere now now that I said this what that means is that menu and I'm pretty sure I'm getting this right holding Alton impressing that underline letter will toggle or execute bat that feature so that's a concept that especially for non-visual you won't know that right we have a staff member here at at in my building I was totally blind and I work with him on a lot of things if you super proficient with the skills he needs to do but sometimes there are programs were weirdly he can't tap to where he needs to go but we found some work around from time to time because the pumps I need to get to within a program there is one of those you know functions where a word has been has had one letter underline it we can jump to it for some reason tab e won't get you there but the shortcut works I had to it when he kept telling me that he couldn't get there I was a little skeptical to be honest right but that I saw him go through it I did a little bit myself we can't get your funky pork butt what did I saw the underlined letter and so we tried it and it worked right and so now we have a new work around that that allows him to access what he needs to drink so you have to see it to teach her something to keep in mind these are hotkeys and shortcuts do they allow you to navigate to desktop efficiently how many guys you open programs by clicking on their their icon anybody do that yeah I mean that's fine I'm not going to judge you if you do that but you can't see the screen. That doesn't mean anything to you I mean I guess you could use Windows D to hit the desktop and then you're going to navigate With Your Heroes but wait that's using the keyboard so that wasn't aware I was going to say is you don't set up click on a Nikon you can hit the Windows key to pull up your your start menu and they just type in what you want so you may know my copper program do you want to disappear for whatever reason Windows type in word and and it should automatically be found by the operating system right there you can answer that you're ready to go without touching Mouse and so we can navigate the best top we can have it within programs efficiently social when you think about web browsers and common platforms like Google doc or word doc I'm going to really try to have time at the end to show off something within word to teach sure you guys get a special that begins with a malt we want to go to navigator fishing line or what if I table setting but need to go back to my doctor these are all things that shortens can allow me to do that and ultimately work we're simply more productive that does not take us as much time or interest in the same amount of time were you able to produce more in other teachers Isis TV eyes other than other supporters we may not know all these things for sure do not know every shortcut that's how I know what I use often but they're ones that I seldom use and I keep forgetting it I have to look at backup okay and that's fine once you've lived out there for nearly every program out there because this is a well-developed platformer computer program they will have published some list of shortcuts that will that I ideally going to make using it more efficient than their their methods spend some time in May that's the perks of our jobs and we get to look through those to learn how to make life easier and more efficient for students so that we can teach it to look for those indicated shortcut like I said fine words that have underlined letters if it's something that's common we're going to teach that to our kids if it helps them teaching kontrol S4 safe and then I work for that those dialogues that pop up this is more less when I get back here let's see let me start this year I'm going to Spotlight myself and what would be the best first step butts are how much are getting here screechy right do you guys see a Word document so I'm so  I I I selected new New Joc here I am in there if I'm getting started right what do you what do you guys notice here on screen I know it's very big you think you think a student with a visual impairment is optimally set up to be ready to get going not really write any any suggestions cuz it is a blinking cursor okay that's fine and no we haven't set up the accessibility features and whatnot but I think the one example of now I'm kind of blending Concepts here but for a visual learner we might want to set this up a little more Optimum okay and so what we could do is I'm going to use the windows up Arrow shortcut which is full screen these are all things that instead of having to click up there to the teeny tiny buttons If you see my mouse up there near close in a restorative smaller in a minimized instead of using the button and now still within the document yes I can type know my name is Alan Deb that's just pretty small I think the word says it's 11.5 and so there is something we can do to without even changing the font size make this experience better for some kids who have visual impairment and that's actually by setting the document to have it with still the screen so here's we're accessing the ribbon tab at the top file home insert so long time ago I realize getting Alt open up everything and in in those ribbons right and what do you see I hit off that's it right you see a letter for each of these tabs and so the setting that I once I know is in the view tab so I'm going to hit W what is the y1 and Y2 I think that just means that there is more in there or they just they're not using as many letters I hit why it whittled it down to one of those two and then you just continue with one or two that make sense I think we just pay the rent out of letters or something like that I'm not super sure about but again what I needed and review okay so instead of cooking up there and you see how tiny some of these options are it can be easy to get lost so again instead of somewhat sometimes That explicit instruction is knowing the common routines that can help a student explicitly teach what it takes to get there so I wouldn't necessarily bother with worrying about teaching the location necessarily I was just saying we're going to hit alt and then you can access to view tab Wichita not fall by W which I did I just pressed it right and now you is open with all of its options they're okay and what I want is the page with setting and my page just filled the screen and and yes this is still if I go back to home actually want to use my shortcuts write alt H go back to home I can visually confirm that the font size is still 11 but functionally how it appears on the screen the good that bigger right so now I'm you know so this is both a combination of what you can do with the word document mostly showing you how you can get around programs by using shortcuts and things like that but let me tell you I would argue most of our kids don't have zero awareness that that's the thing that hitting all allows them quick access to these these tabs to den get where they need to go right so if I wanted to buy should let me in let me escape here go back to the document all right so now let's say I want I do want to change the font size examples of custom commands in action control shift okay part of selecting and so now I'm going to use the left Arrow I've not slept. Allen is named mine okay so control ship is selecting word by word that  selected all that I haven't touched my mouth is still sitting there next to my name I'm going to aphmau home let's see I think what font size is fsok now you see the 11:00 is highlighted hopefully okay it's ready for me to type in a new number 24 I need 21st okay or is there all that can be accomplished without a keyboard and arguably for what many students going to be an easier experience then let me know I can still see my face leaning in in looking for that teeny tiny drop-down Arrow to click and then you a teeny tiny thing to select a number for you guys I'll have as you work with you're stupid how to be more social for themselves and more proficient users of these these programs and it's a little little example there for you let's see questions where were we got about 5 minutes so when would you when were you introduced the accessibility components would you just continue with those that you've introduced us to eventually as the student ages or can retain more information utilize those as well accessibility are are I don't think there's any I would say you can start that from the get-go and find what is comfortable and so to demonstrate are you looking at to access the ease of Access Center you're going to press the Windows key and you short cuts at the same time Windows you got it pulled up so you should see this this page not right has display the top and so as you see the first section of ease of access is vision and got this play where you've got you know font sizes in a within the system make everything bigger scaling thing I'll let you guys mess with that size 3 because that's good for me it's like hot pink because I see that really clearly right but there's lots of different ways I would say in a 4 year students were low vision users of the computer you know it you know what helps them you know see and discriminate on the screen you know any more effectively so walk your students through these and play with them to understand what each setting does is it even helpful if you don't think it's all cold and then just let it be right we don't have to force everything on it on folks I don't really enjoy personally this text cursor indicator that hourglass looking thing you can you can be is that but it just looks really strange we prefer down here I'll turn Italy where you can change the thickness of that blinking cursor my Savannah documents or a field it won't just be a super thin cursor line you can make but you would want to consider walking students through all that I will show you this magnifier so magnifier I'm going to do a couple things but let me turn that on okay I don't know what I want to sing okay but as you can imagine so maybe my point is when when you have a screen magnifier turned on you are zoomed in and you cannot you can no longer see everything that you may want to see and so that partially instead of visually panning around to find what you're looking for it behooves you to be equipped with knowledge of how to open programs or switch between them so I'm going to close this because I think and I'm going to stop sharing beer Alan this is Virginia is there a quick-and-dirty list so to speak of the hotkeys that we can link to and then share with our students you don't like I said there's a lot of list out there I think you would probably it wouldn't be that much work to Simply look up a list of Windows shortcuts and from there just yourself kind of highlighting or crossing off whatever you want to do highlighting the ones that are that you believe are are going to be most beneficial So within a Word document we know that copy cut paste are all important Shortcuts To Know I'm going pretty save those those kinds of things you would want to emphasize if they have short cuts for us everything we don't need all that org like I'm willing to say specific demands how to do xy&z we don't necessarily need to teach everything right off the bat only or actually better example is signs in math will only start with what they need the most and I Want A New Concept comes up in class and you're going to keep that ahead of time the symbol with a keyboard shortcuts that's an approach I think would be pretty pretty wise thank you I appreciate your your time and everyone being here why don't I stop this recording again this is the keys to success and being successful with typing part of the Tennessee Viva learning series look out for news about the next sessions coming up we have some pretty cool things on the horizon
